ABOUT

Problem Statement

Garrett County WIC issues about $15,000 in Fruits and Vegetables every month. Clients are only spending about 59% or roughly $9,000 a month. This also coincides with a families consumption of fruits and vegetables.

Aim / Overall Goal / Desired Result

Staff would like to see the percentage rate increase from 59% to 75% a month.

Change Idea

An increase in the fruit and vegetable benefit will help to increase a family's consumption of fruits and vegetables.

PDSA Objective

To implement education and other methods to increase the redemption of the fruit and vegetable benefit and that this will help participants consume more fruits and vegetables.

Participants will increase their fruit and vegetable consumption and clients will begin to redeem all of the fruit and vegetable benefit that is issued to them.

Every staff member will be responsible.

  1. Ask participants what is the hardest part of using this benefit
  2. Provide recipes that use fruits and vegetables along with other WIC foods.
  3. Provide educational materials on purchasing canned and frozen fruits and vegetables.
