Goal:

Improve the redemption rate of the fruit and vegetable benefit from 59% to 70%

Strategy Description:

Target nutrition education on importance and acceptance of fruits and vegetables in family diets. 1.  Individual counseling with families on how they can purchase fresh, canned and frozen fruits and vegetables during all appointments. 2.  Promote the temporary increase in the fruit and vegetable benefit. $9 for children increased to $25, $11 for all women categories increased to $44 for PG/WPP/BP, and BE increased to $49. 3.  Provide families with recipes at every appointment that use WIC foods. 4.  Individualized discussion based on individual family usage of fruit and vegetable benefit.

Fruits and Vegetables are an essential part of an individuals diets. Educating WIC participants to redeem all of the money given for fruits and vegetables they will also increase their consumption.

Research:

Data is always 2 months behind. The reports will be generated by the state WIC office and will be uploaded to the WOW MIS system.
