Meeting Minutes
THOSE PRESENT: Mitzi Wiltison, Laura Schroyer, Amanda Shreve, Dr. Karl Schwalm, Dr. Jenny Corder, Dr. Stephanie Sisler
MEETING TIME
The first Wednesday of the month seems to fit most schedules, unless in interferes with OIT/OFR; and mornings are better. Beth will schedule meetings for the first Wednesday of the month at 8:00 a.m., and then give Bob a copy to avoid double booking of these meetings and the OIT/OFR meetings.
UPDATE: PARENT/STUDENT SURVEY
High school students can complete the survey through the Play Hard Live Clean link. Parents/guardians of middle school students will receive a printed version of the survey with a permission slip at the end of the survey for their child to complete a paper survey at school.
A launch date needs to be determined for the high school students. Northern High School sends out daily emails, so the survey could possibly be attached to an email.
UPDATE: INTEGRATED SCHOOL HEALTH
The board of education is not represented at the meeting today, so we do not have an update. Dr. Corder will reach out to Becky Aiken for an update.
UPDATE: STATISTICS RECRUITMENT FROM PROVIDERS’ OFFICES
Wellspring, Cornerstone, Dr. Sisler, and MLMC are taking part in gathering the number well visits for adolescents. We need to get Garrett Medical Group involved. Physicians can remind patients to schedule a well-visit when they are in for illness, injury, vaccinations, etc.
There are insurance companies that provide programs to address patient health, and physicians’ offices are given money for targeted indicators.
OTHER BUSINESS
Dr. Sisler followed the State’s Health Assessment form used for foster care and made it more in depth to delve into the health issues. The physical is required to be done within 24 hours of being removed from the family and placed in a foster care home. Dr. Schwalm will talk to Jessica at DSS about the new form and if the state has initiatives.
Dr. Schwalm will talk to the IT departments at the physician’s offices to incorporate the template for the physical form into their database.
Amanda will brainstorm ideas on a type of community event to target well-child checks with a focus on smoking, drinking, sex, etc. Also, create a forum on self-advocacy to teach children that they can address issues with their doctor.
Dr. Schwalm will reach out to Kendra Thayer about the state adolescent health initiative.
With no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 9:00 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at 8:00 a.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Beth A. Brenneman
