The Substance Use Block Grant Grant addresses social and environmental factors that contribute to
substance use-related problems in the community. Strategies used in the grant help prevent the initiation of substance use and misuse and identify and address the needs of individuals at high risk for developing substance use disorders.

Q1 Narrative Successes: Through the efforts SUBG staff 9 new partnerships were established with Deep Creek Farmers Market, Friendsville Days Planning Committee, Friendsville Elementary School PTO, Garrett Arts Council, Health Education and Outreach(Staff), Little Yough Family Flicks, and the MD Food Bank. 13 existing partners continued to support the Communities Together preventing underage drinking messaging. Underage Drinking Prevention/Community-Based Process/Strategic Prevention Framework training was completed with Health Education and Outreach Staff, Participants of a TIPS for concession training, and community members at the Friendsville Fire Hall during a back-to-school kick-off event. Healthy Families served 54 families this quarter and planning for training of their clients on ATOD topics has been set to happen in Q2. CHALLENGES: Since our funding is yet to be approved staff have not been able to support events and community activities where underage drinking prevention messages could be shared. This has also slowed down planning for future events in Quarter 2.
