Data Narrative

  1. Total number of youth referred for tobacco use education as an alternative to suspension
  2. Number that starts cessation excludes youth that are required to meet with Tobacco Treatment Specialist.
  3. Cessation participants must participate in 5 out of 6 classes to be considered a completer.
  4. Compliance checks are conducted by Garrett County Sheriff's Office with assistance from GCHD staff and high school youth.
  5. All stores visited that do NOT sell tobacco to an underage buyer are considered compliant.
  6. GCHD staff visit all stores in the county that sell tobacco to assess availability of tobacco, advertising of tobacco, and to educate the employees about the laws.
  7. This measure includes any presentations that are conducted around the county, classes that are offered (excluding cessation classes), or trainings. (tracked on departmental databases)

  9. Print media occurrences include articles, posters, fliers, print ads, radio ads, banners, billboards, or screens that are generated by staff. Media occurrences are only counted once per month (for example, if a billboard stays up for 2 months, it will show up once in each month it is featured; a poster that goes up in 5 communities is only counted once for it's overall message)
