In fall 2011, Garrett College launched the Joan & Bill Crawford “I Can Swim!” Program (ICS) at the Garrett College Community Aquatic & Recreation Complex (CARC). All kindergarten children in Garrett County receive free basic swimming and water safety instruction, following American Red Cross curriculum. GC BOE buses transport students from their school to the CARC for a four-day active learning program during the regular school week. The program represents a partnership that also includes the Garrett County Board of Education, Garrett County Board of County Commissioners, and the Garrett College Foundation.
This group’s function will be to research, measure, and report the raw data of the ICS program. The group will assess the success of the program as it relates to swim instruction and water safety.
