A community collaborative developed from the Child & Adolescent Wellness Workgroup, to specifically focus on reducing childhood obesity by helping children develop healthy eating habits, be physically active, reduce screen time, and get adequate sleep. Medical providers include members from Wellspring Family Medicine, Mountain Laurel Medical Center, and Lovelight Pediatrics.

Goal:

This group is a subgroup of the Child & Adolescent Wellness Workgroup. The main goal is to get kids into the doctor for yearly checkups. This group has built out strategies to ultimately support the main goal and focus on reducing childhood obesity.

Strategy Description:

Create an 8-week lifestyle program with a focus on nutrition, physical activity, and routine well-check exams. Each participant will choose one area to make an actionable change. The 8-week lifestyle program will begin at Crellin Elementary School as a pilot program. The education of medical providers, school personnel, students, and families will be delivered and measured.
