Goal:

A comprehensive assessment of all public school students and their families needs to encourage better health and academic outcomes in the two western-most Maryland counties.

Strategy Description:

Through a diverse group of partners from all sectors of the community, the representative Steering Committee will establish guidelines by which data needs are identified, the data is gathered, and the findings of the assessments will be shared with our local partners, school officials, and community to address the findings from the comprehensive assessment.

Health Equity:

Health equity is one of the pillars associated with the WMSBHCP project. This group aims to identify and define the social determinants of health that are creating barriers to better health and academic achievements for both school-aged children and their families. Addressing SDoH issues like access to care, economic benefits, and transportation are all parts of the picture that impact improved health outcomes and academic success for disadvantaged, rural students.

Research demonstrates that barriers that create health inequities create exponentially greater somatic and mental health difficulties for families and students. Data sources:
