Blood Pressure Monitoring

Public Group active %s

The prevalence of heart disease in Garrett County is high and residents of all ages need to know their risks and how to prevent a cardiovascular event. The goal is to make people aware of the importance of knowing their blood pressure numbers and the consequences of untreated hypertension. Those already diagnosed with high blood pressure are encouraged to take their medications as prescribed and continue to make healthy lifestyle changes. Individuals identified with potentially undiagnosed hypertension are encouraged to follow up with their health care provider.

Data Narrative

The Health Department provided blood pressure monitors through a blood pressure grant from the Maryland Department of Health to various health professionals in the county along with data collecting forms. Health Department staff compiled the data monthly from 10/1/18-3/31/19. Students attending Northern and Southern High Schools have their blood pressure taken at the beginning and the end of the semester as part of the fitness assessment for students enrolled in the 9th Grade Health and Weight Lifting classes.
