Goal:

Develop effective annual community influenza vaccine strategies that promote public health with widespread influenza vaccination for the prevention of the spread of seasonal influenza in the community.

Strategy Description:

Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders, including local health departments, healthcare providers, schools, employers, community organizations, and pharmacies. Foster partnerships to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to influenza vaccination efforts. Education and Awareness: Conduct public education campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of influenza vaccination, addressing common misconceptions, and emphasizing the benefits of immunization. Utilize various communication channels such as social media, local news outlets, community events, and educational materials to disseminate accurate information. Targeted Outreach: Identify populations at higher risk of severe influenza outcomes, such as older adults, young children, pregnant women, individuals with chronic medical conditions, and healthcare workers. Develop targeted outreach programs to address their specific needs, including convenient vaccination clinics, mobile vaccination units, and tailored messaging. Accessibility and Convenience: Increase accessibility to influenza vaccines by providing multiple vaccination sites throughout the community, including healthcare facilities, pharmacies, workplaces, schools, and community centers. Offer extended hours, walk-in appointments, and mobile vaccination services to enhance convenience and reduce barriers to access. Vaccine Promotion and Incentives: Promote the influenza vaccine through various incentives and reminders, such as social media posts and outreach encouraging individuals to protect themselves and their community by getting vaccinated. Provider Training and Support: Provide comprehensive training to healthcare providers on influenza vaccination recommendations, vaccine administration techniques, and addressing patient concerns. Support healthcare providers with educational resources, and tools for vaccine promotion and tracking. Data Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate influenza vaccination rates within the community. Collect and analyze data on vaccination coverage, high-risk populations, and vaccination campaign effectiveness. Use this data to assess progress, identify areas for improvement, and guide future strategies. Collaboration with Schools and Employers: Collaborate with schools and community healthcare facilities to promote influenza vaccination among students, faculty, and employees. Offer on-site vaccination clinics, educational materials, and resources that support vaccination efforts within these settings. Community Engagement: Engage community leaders, influencers, and grassroots organizations to advocate for influenza vaccination. Organize community events, town halls, and workshops to address concerns, provide accurate information, and encourage community-wide participation in vaccination efforts. Seasonal Preparedness: Develop a seasonal influenza preparedness plan that includes early vaccine procurement, communication strategies, and surge capacity planning. Coordinate with local healthcare facilities to ensure adequate vaccine supply and preparedness for potential influenza outbreaks.

Health Equity:

Location and Accessibility: Choose clinic locations that are easily accessible to diverse populations, including underserved communities. Consider proximity to public transportation, availability of parking, and proximity to areas with higher concentrations of disadvantaged populations. Outreach and Education: Provide targeted outreach efforts to reach areas in the county facing health disparities. Collaborate with community organizations, private and public schools, faith-based institutions, senior center meal sites, social service agencies, long-term care facilities, and local businesses to disseminate information about influenza vaccination clinics and address barriers that may exist. Vaccine Affordability: Ensure that influenza vaccines are available at no or minimal cost to individuals facing financial barriers. Extended Hours and Flexibility: Offer flexible clinic hours, including evenings to accommodate individuals who may have work or other commitments during regular business hours. This allows for greater access to vaccination services for individuals who may face time constraints. Education and Outreach Messaging: Develop education and outreach messaging to address specific community concerns and misconceptions related to influenza vaccination. Emphasize the importance of vaccination in preventing illness and protecting loved ones while dispelling myths and providing accurate information. Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and analyze data on vaccination coverage across demographics in the county to identify any disparities in vaccination rates. Use this data to inform targeted interventions, evaluate the effectiveness of equity-focused strategies, and continuously monitor progress toward health equity goals. Collaboration with Community Organizations: Partner with community organizations, and groups that have a deep understanding of community needs. Collaborate on outreach efforts, utilize community spaces for vaccination clinics, and engage community members in the planning and implementation processes. Continuous Evaluation and Improvement: Regularly evaluate the impact of health equity strategies implemented with annual influenza vaccine clinics. Solicit feedback from community members and stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and refine approaches to address health disparities effectively. The Garrett County Health Department Community influenza vaccine clinics will promote health equity, ensuring that everyone in the community has equal access to influenza vaccination services, with a goal of reducing disparities and improving overall community health.
