Judy Center Mission: “Supporting Teachers, Children and Families in Achieving School Readiness”

This mission requires the development of collaborative, integrated programs and approaches that support the young children’s development in social and emotional, language and literacy, cognitive and general knowledge, approaches toward learning, and physical well-being and motor areas enhancing readiness for school while supporting families in their abilities to support their children’s early learning.

The Judy Center’s purpose is to ensure school readiness for all students entering school by providing comprehensive, integrated, full-day, full-year services that promote school readiness for children birth through age five.

Judy Hoyer’s vision and life achievements were devoted to improving the lives of young children. She succeeded in shaping and enhancing the futures of thousands of students throughout Maryland. After her death, her husband, Congressman Steny Hoyer continued her efforts by making funding possible for the establishment of Judy Centers throughout Maryland.

Garrett County Judy Center

The Garrett County Judy Center is part of a state wide effort operated by Garrett County Community Action in partnership with Garrett County Public Schools. The Judy Center collaborates with early childhood educational programs and provides parent engagement opportunities for families with children (ages 0-5) residing in the Broad Ford, Crellin, Friendsville, Grantsville and Yough Glades school attendance areas, in an effort to increase the number of children entering school ready to learn! Judy Centers are unique because they promote school readiness through a close relationship with early childhood educators, children, families, community agencies, organizations and businesses!

The Garrett County Judy Center is linked with Broad Ford, Crellin, Friendsville, Grantsville and Yough Glades Elementary Schools, Dennett Road Early Learning Center, Kitzmiller Head Start Center, Overlook Child Development Center, Grantsville Child Development Center, Sunny Days Child Care, and Ann Collins, Becky Ashby, and Sondra Tasker’s Family Child Cares.
