Death Certificates
Certified copies of Maryland death certificates from 2015 to the present may be obtained at the local health department. The fee is $18 for the first copy and $20 for each additional copy. Please call 301-334-7700 to verify that you have the proper entitlement documentation. Death certificates issued before 2015 must be obtained through the Division of Vital Records in Baltimore, Maryland, for a fee of $10 for the first copy and $12 for each additional copy.
Birth Certificates
Same Day Service:
Those born in Maryland, the health department can issue same-day certificates by appointment. You must present a valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, U.S. passport, MVA photo ID card, or military photo ID). The photo ID must have an issue and expiration date. If your ID has expired, please call for additional information. The fee is $20 per certificate. We accept cash, local checks, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.

Armed Forces Member
With proof of military service, there is no fee for a birth certificate for a current or former armed forces member when the certificate is requested by that member.
Births Prior to 1940
Birth certificates for birth years prior to 1940 must be requested from the Division of Vital Records. For details, visit https://health.maryland.
